I think the article says it all - - as sad as it is. Clearly at over 30% of the folk in the United States obese - people are not only not taking care of their health on the inside, they could careless on the outside too. Call me biased, but I would guess if you did a study - the healthier, normal weight patients dress more respectfully than the overweight, waiting for a heart attacks patients.

I for one, will always dress respectively (and where light shoes for that dog gone scale) when I visit the doctor.

Thank you for this information. My husband has been an insulin dependent diabetic for over 40 years and he has multiple health issues because of the diabetes, including vascular dementia. He recently had vascular surgery on his right leg, was in the hospital for a total of six days, and I was very nervous when he was released, because of my fear that I would not be able to care for him at home or that I would just have to take him back to the hospital. We did have visiting nurses coming to our home for about 3 weeks after his release. I wonder if "visiting home nurses" will still be covered by Medicare? At this time I am his caregiver (24/7). I just wanted to say that I appreciate your articles and information. Thank you again.

I totally agree with this, grabby hands are annoying. But what is worse is men treating the clitoris as though it is a mower that you can power start. Hope you will continue this little series.

Doesn't seem all that restrictive.

I have celiac and colitis. and I've noticed problems with soy, my lips tingle with apples and when I have a flare up of colitis I become lactose intolerant.

There are PLENTY of things to eat.

I often wonder why there aren't more medical professionals willing to test for celiac or food allergies and why there is this blanket explanation for 'we don't know, but you just have bloating and pooping at times.

We eat an almost paleo diet. We have cut out eating grains in large quantities (as is the American diet) and we concentrate more on fish, chicken, meat, veggies, fruits, we have cheese and milk, but limit the sugar we have with rare treats of ice cream and /or candy aisle items.

I so agree.

I have worked in a doctor's office and have looked around out at restaurants, weddings, etc, and am amazed at how people dress. It seems that very few people have "sunday clothes" any more, or clothes that they bring out for special occasions.

I was a child not all that long ago and I recall having clothes we wore to school and clothes we wore to play/rough house in and they weren't the same thing.

Thanks for your comments. I struggle convincing the residents I train to treat their own appearance seriously. It does have an impact on the relationship you have with your patients as much or more so than the patient's appearance.

If we had a more condusive living room, I'd expect the furniture to be moved around everyday, just to change things up. Sometimes living in a place with Bridgit could be like the music video for "Virtual Insanity" by Jamiroquai. This particular doctor, although nice and supportive about our pregnancy, has some strange and backward ideas related to blind parenting. Unfortunately, the doctor worked with a blind mother before, and not every blind person is the same. Great article, babe.

Love this line: "And no matter if you finish the race at the front or back of the pack, you’ve scored a victory by just showing up." :)

When a couple is faced with an illness or disability, intimacy is greatly impacted on all levels. Whether the impact is physical, emotional, psychological or all three, the results can be devastating.

Ivan, I can not even imagine what it is like to watch your wife's life be over taken by Alzheimers disease. I commend you and your spiritual beliefs for maintaining a level of commitment towards each other.

I will process my answer and dedicate an entire blog to the subject matter since many others could benefit from this topic.
Best of love to you and the love of your life!
